CANTOR KATHY ROBBINS

We are delighted to welcome as our High Holiday Chazzan again this year, the well-known and much beloved CANTOR KATHY ROBBINS.

For  twenty-six years, Cantor Kathy was the Cantor and Music  Director of  our local sister-synagogue,  Temple Solel in Cardiff.  There, her creative contributions include a repertoire of original  liturgical compositions in the contemporary ethnic-fusion genre, a  Meditation Minyan, Freilich Friday Shabbat Eve Service, Sermons-in-Song  with her seven piece band, a Jazzfest open to the community, and Adult  Education Wellness Wheel, providing alternative and holistic paths to  wholeness, within the context of Jewish spirituality.

Her incredible talent and the warmth of her personality endeared her to  generations of congregants, and, especially to the Bar and Bat Mitzvah  students whom she guided with tenderness and love.

Cantor Robbins investiture as a Certified Cantor comes the  Hebrew Union College- Jewish Institute of Religion’s School of Sacred  Music, and she has completed the Cantorial Leadership Program of the  Institute for Jewish Spirituality.   She is a full member of the  American Conference of Cantors.

In 1988, she premiered Larry Zimmerman’s “Windsongs,” which was  written for her in observance of Yom HaShoah.  In 1991, she commissioned  Ami Aloni to compose “Diveri Torah” for the Bat Mitzvah of Temple  Solel.

Her CD, Shavat Vayinafash - An Island in Time,  an album of contemporary music for the Eve of Shabbat,  is sublime, and displays  the range of her talent and artistry.   And, she is the angelic voice  on the CD of Rabbi and Ellen’s 20 Minute Kabbalah Chants.

Cantor Robbins, who lives in Carlsbad with her son, Hillel  Rubin, brings a lifetime of musical experience, her magnificent voice,  her great spirit, and her precious soul to The Elijah Minyan’s High  Holiday services.  She will be accompanied by NINA DEERING, and joined by  Kol Eli'ahu, The Elijah Minyan Choir. We eagerly look forward to davennen with them.
